Technical Tour: Innovation Centre

Traffic Innovation Centre Helmond

Short description

The Automotive Campus in Helmond – located in the Brainport Region – is the national and international hotspot, meeting point and place of business in the field of automotive (technology) and smart mobility. The Campus is a meeting place where know-how and companies can get together with the aim of promoting cross-sector cooperation, exchange of knowledge and open innovation. Smart, safe and sustainable mobility solutions for people, roads and vehicles of today and tomorrow are realized at the Automotive Campus.

We will visit the Traffic Innovation Centre (TIC, Innovatiecentrale), located on the Automotive Campus. This is an innovative test facility for experiments at the Automotive Campus in Helmond. In this centre, companies, knowledge institutes and road authorities work together to test intelligent mobility solutions. This takes place in a real-life environment: on a public road, in an actual network, in live traffic. TIC can use the facilities of the Rijkswaterstaat traffic control centre for the southern Netherlands region. This gives instant insight into the effect of an idea on real traffic. During the visit, we’ll elaborate on the functionalities of the test facility, but also go into a little more detail on experiments that have been conducted here.

Goal/focus of tour

We will visit the facilities used for research. You will hear about the research being conducted, visit facilities where smart car systems are tested by major brands, the traffic control centre, and get a look at the on-road test facilities. AutomotiveNL, the cluster organisation of the Dutch Automotive- and Mobility Industry, will give a brief overview of future plans, ambitions and showcases.
